So you’ve scheduled your child’s first dental appointment – now what? As the anticipation builds, you're probably asking yourself, “What goes on at the first appointment?”
Your child's first dentist appointment is basically an information-gathering exercise. It also gives you a chance to meet the pediatric dentist and assess the dynamic between the dentist and your child. No worries!...all of our operatories are arranged to accommodate a parent or guardian.
Here’s what you can expect at your child’s first dental appointment:
1. A warm welcome from our front office staff, as well as a fully stocked play area (sponsored by Timmy’s Toys©) to keep your little one entertained while waiting.
2. A "gentle dental" cleaning that will most likely include x-rays of your child's teeth by our friendly and patient dental assistants.
3. A brief exam of your child’s teeth, conducted by Dr. JV. She will assess their teeth, along with the gum line and jaw development.
4. A proposed treatment plan will be built in your child's chart and their next appointment will be scheduled.
*Common treatments and problems that may be addressed include methods to reduce finger sucking, how to properly manage teething, methods on discouraging pacifier use, and other issues related to baby/toddler dental care. While these treatments aren’t required for every patient, they might be administered to your child.*
